BRIEF CHURCH HISTORY

When you travel west from Rocky Mount, VA to Waidsboro Road, then to Haw Patch Road you will find a community called Rock Ridge. The people in the community had a heart for the Word. So, they were traveling to surrounding churches for worship. This soon became very hard and found many people not attending church as much as they desired.

After much deliberation, four members of the community posed to the people to begin a church in the community. It was well received by the people. So the four founding members, Rev. Herbert and Sister Willie Helm, and Rev. William and Sister Nannie Hagwood began holding services in the Smith School. From that endeavor, Rock Ridge Baptist Church of Ferrum, VA was born in 1926.

The community banned together and erected by their human hands a little wooden church on the site where the church stands today. Ten years later, the members had planks put over the logs.  Many years later, a bigger and better church was built. Over the years, a lot of remodeling has taken place to make it the church building it is today.

The church was built to serve the community and that still remains a factor today. We are proud of Rock Ridge Baptist Church and its membership. We strive hard to work together as one small family. Since our Founding members are all gone, it is a strong desire that our Church will live out their vision – which was to make this a place of worshipping and praising God. Rock Ridge is God’s house and it is alive!
